Boeing's Summer Science Camp (SSC)

SSC is an extremely popular program that currently hosts approximately 300 students in K-12 from over 70 cities in the Southern California area. Students spend three consecutive weekends taking creative, fun-filled classes in one of the following areas: biology, chemistry, physics, astronomy, machinery, computers, robotics, environmental systems, or earth science. Applications for the 2009 camp are now being accepted online.

Discovery Science Center

Imaginations turn, twist and fly through 100 exciting hands-on exhibits at Discovery Science Center in Santa Ana.  Experience science Southern California style in the Center’s themed areas including Quake Zone, Techno Arts, Discovery Stadium, Perception, Dynamic Earth, Air & Space, Kids Station and Dino Quest.  Dino Quest is the world’s first interactive Dinosaur Adventure! Challenge your family to Virtual Volleyball, make music on a Laser Beam Harp, experience tremors in our Shake Shack, dance across a Musical Floor, lie on a Bed of Nails and more!   Exciting events throughout the year include BubbleFest in April, Spooky Science in October, the Science of Gingerbread in December and more.  Open daily 10am to 5pm.  Information: 714-542-CUBE or www.discoverycube.org.

The Science Center recently opened the Delta III exhibit (the only one on public display).  In addition, the center has an Air and Space exhibit area featuring a Lillenthal Glider, full-size replica of the Shuttle, exhibits on propulsion, Mars globe, flight simulator and more!

Admission is $12.95 for adults, $9.95 for children and seniors.

Griffith Observatory

After a five-year, $93 million renovation and expansion, the Observatory is divided into three main areas: the Hall of Science astronomy museum, the telescopes, a new planetarium theater, theater, cafe, classroom, bookstore and more than 60 stellar exhibits. All are open to the public and, except planetarium shows, are free of charge. Hours are from noon to 10 p.m. Tuesday to Friday and 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) - NASA

Advance reservations are required for all tours. Tours commonly include a multi-media presentation on JPL entitled "Welcome to Outer Space," which provides an overview of the Laboratory's activities and accomplishments. Guests may also visit the von Karman Visitor Center, the Space Flight Operations Facility, and the Spacecraft Assembly Facility.
